Kellerwald-Edersee National Park App
– fascinating tours into the kingdom of the quaint beeches.

The Kellerwald-Edersee National Park protects a habitat of European importance – the acidophilous red copper beech forest and its natural dynamics. According to the motto “Let nature be nature” a new wilderness is coming into being. The copper beech dominates the closed forest landscape. Its forests stretch across 51 mountains and hilltops like a sea of beeches. It is not without reason that a part of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage “Ancient German Beech Forests” lies hidden in this place. Boulder forests, dry forests of oak, rock meadows where the firewitch grows, 1,000 springs and creeks as well as pasture valleys and Triescher complete the unique ensemble. The red deer strides majestically through the kingdom of the quaint beeches. Black stork, eagle owl and wildcat have returned to the quiet forests. Also the lynx roams around here again. Seven woodpecker species and eighteen bat species live here.
Hiking in the national park and through the World Natural Heritage is a very special experience. The App makes your smartphone a valuable companion on your wilderness adventure tour. The forest landscape is accessible through 20 marked circular routes, which can be managed on half-day excursions. They take you past enchanted beech trees and clear springs. They lead through quiet meadow valleys and along steep slopes. They direct you to magnificent viewpoints and down to Lake Edersee. And they all lead you into the fascinating wilderness of the national park. Spectacular insights into old and new wilderness open up along the Urwaldsteig, which runs through the World Natural Heritage for more than 20km. And it does not miss out on the bizarre remnants of primeval forest on the other side of Lake Edersee, outside of the national park. The App navigates you to the parking areas for hikers and along the footpaths. It provides you with information about the national park, the World Natural Heritage and about the phenomena along the way.
